Skills Required: Most adult program mentors are not professional educators; many have no formal teaching experience. They come from all professional backgrounds bringing unique skills and life experience. What they have in common: patience, kindness, and empathy. They are motivated to see others achieve and cheer for their success. We help adults 19+ improve their reading, writing, math, basic computer and digital skills.
Activities: Working one-to-one with another adult in areas like: - basic math or math used in the skilled trades (ie. imperial measurement, trigonometry, geometry) - reading or writing learning grammar rules and pronunciation - basic Microsoft Word or Excel or Powerpoint - how to navigate the internet including safe search, protecting against scams, spotting fake news - financial literacy basics and money math/cash counting - high school credit course work
