Act II Theatre Program Volunteers

ACT II provides supportive services for youth through various performing, visual, expressive, and musical arts-based programming. It provides youth with the opportunity to develop an increased sense of self-worth and belonging through a youth-engaged expressive arts model.

ACT II is of no cost and incorporates skill building using Rebound’s child & youth professionals, in conjunction with trained adult allies from the arts community. ACT II succeeds in helping youth develop emotional and social strengths, with a focus on youth facing barriers, including those who identify as 2SLGBTQ+, BIPOC, and those facing mental health challenges.

ACT II hold rehearsals in June, July, August, and September, held three times a week in the summer before show week. It is open to youth aged 8-17 for the cast and open for ages 8-24 for production crew roles. Whether a youth would like work backstage or perform in front of a crowd, there a place for them in Act II.

Director Mentee (1 Position ages 12-24)

  • • Work alongside Director Mentor the block the show
  • • Work alongside the Director Mentor with establishing the vision of the production and ensure the integrity of the story.
  • • Facilitate a variety of meaningful group activities with the help of acting consultant
  • • Communicate with props design for properties needed to be created for the show/mock properties

Acting Consultant (1 Position ages 12-24)

  • • Assist actors with character development and emotion and purpose of the lines.
  • • Work alongside the Director Mentee in teaching acting techniques to the cast.
  • • Facilitate a variety of meaningful group activities with the Director Mentee Producer (2 Positions age 17+)
  • • Establish and organize a list of events for marketing the show for the Production team.
  • • Responsible for creating a front of house vision for the production.
  • • Ensure everything is running smoothly and ensure that the production team is meeting their deadlines
  • • Promoting the show within the community

Stage Manager Mentee (1 Position ages 12-24)

  • • Working alongside side the Stage Manager Mentor to ensure all stage cues for the Production are being managed
  • • To provide the show “cues” to the Assistant Stage Managers.
  • • To make sure that all rules are followed, and that the director’s vision is maintained.
  • • To keep notes re: blocking, tech, props, and set during rehearsals.

Assistant Stage Managers (2 Positions)

The Assistant Stage Managers will work in collaboration with the Stage Manager Mentor and Mentee for the following:

  • • Assist in the management of the actors and crew. • Provide the show “cues” to the actors on their side of the stage.
  • • To make sure that all rules are being followed and that the director’s vision is maintained.
  • • Ensure the safety of the actors and crew
  • • Assistant Stage Managers work alongside the Stage Manager Mentee to collect notes on cues for their respective side of the stage.

Act II Leader Positions Available –

  • • During show week, Assistant Stage managers are responsible for managing their respective side of the stage.

Back Stage Captains (2 positions ages 12-18)

The Backstage Captains will work in collaboration with the Assistant Stage Managers for the following:

  • • Responsible for all backstage help i.e. props, “show runner” for the youth.
  • • Any assistance required by the Assistant Stage Managers
  • • Opportunity to learn the role of the Assistant Stage Managers.

Choreographer (2 Positions)

  • • The job of the choreographer is to create all dance movements used throughout the show.
  • • To teach dance moves to the actors in groups or individually.
  • • To work one-on-one with the actors to develop dance skills.
  • • Ensure communication with director for blocking purposes
  • • The Choreographer is a member of the creative team and therefore attends creative team meetings to understand and discuss the vision.

Hair and Make-up (2 positions)

  • • Work alongside the Director to create a vision for hair & makeup.
  • • Leads in purchasing materials required.
  • • Responsible for all hair and makeup during tech week and show nights.
  • • Collaborate with the creative team to ensure a cohesive vision.
  • • Communicate and plan with Rebound staff regarding the budget.

Set Designer & Décor (2 Positions)

  • • Paint and decorate set pieces, paint backdrops and refinish furniture
  • • Leads in purchasing materials required.
  • • Is responsible for designing the set, in collaboration with the creative team.
  • • Assist in communicating with volunteers who are helping to build/paint the set.
  • • Communicate and plan with Rebound staff regarding the budget.

Prop Design (1 position)

  • • Assist in creation of property (props)
  • • Leads in purchasing materials required.
  • • Manage inventory of property.
  • • Ensure that properties/mock properties are available for actors.
  • • Work alongside the Director Mentee for all inquiries regarding properties
  • • Communicate and plan with Rebound staff regarding the budget.
