Volunteering in Sarnia-Lambton

VOLUNTEERING: A Great Way To Grow

Bingo Volunteer – On-Pause

Due to COVID-19 Restrictions, this program is currently

On-Pause

Lambton Elderly Outreach is currently looking for people to aid in their fundraising efforts through Bingo.

Volunteering for BINGO is so easy!  Gone are the days of being a ‘runner’ because everything is done electronically so that all that is involved is clearing tables and promoting LEO.  A short 30-minute training session is required and 2 hours of your time which provides the organization with BINGO shares.  It’s a fantastic fundraiser!

Bingo sessions occur two (2), to three (3) times a month for two (2) hours slots.

No handling of cash is required.

Dress code is in effect as per OLG, and OCGA regulations. Black pants and we will provide a golf shirt.

If you like to work with people, and get out of the house – this is perfect.

Volunteer Transportation – On-Pause

Due to COVID-19 Restrictions, this program is currently

On-Pause for Volunteers and run by employees on an interim basis

Transport clients to medical appointments, social engagements, and to do shopping/errands.  A mileage reimbursement is offered.

Volunteers use their personal vehicle to transport clients, and are reimbursed:  mileage is calculated as a return trip from the client’s home to their destination and back.

Requirements:

  • Valid ‘G’ licence held for minimum of 2 years
  • Clean driving record, driver’s abstract required
  • Satisfactory criminal record check

Friendly Visiting On-Pause

Due to COVID-19 Restrictions, this program is currently

On-Pause

Pay a friendly visit to a client in his or her home. This service is mainly geared to isolated clients.

Be there to talk, listen, participate in activities, and provide companionship to someone in your community who may not be able to get out to socialize.

Volunteers provide friendly visits to seniors who may be isolated and/or who are lonely.  Volunteers are matched based on interest and availability.

The volunteer and client will set up their own schedule for visit days and times.  The volunteer is required to report any client concerns to the program coordinator.

Storytelling Volunteer

Our seniors have life experiences and stories in their memory bank that are worth preserving for generations to come.  VON will provide storytelling volunteers with a set of questions.  They meet with a client once a week for eight to ten weeks asking questions and recording the answers.  They will then compile the questions and answers into a binder to present to the client.  Resources and training are provided.

Volunteers are needed to ensure that seniors continue to receive their check-in calls through the Tel-Check program.

Volunteers are also needed to ensure that when people reach out to the Distress Line, their call will be answered.

Volunteer Visitor
