Volunteer Appreciation Event 2018

April 16, 2018 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm

The VCASL’s Volunteer Appreciation Event was held on Monday, April 16th, 2018 at the St. Clair Corporate Centre, 265 Front Street North, Sarnia.  This event is held every year during Volunteer Week to recognize the contributions of volunteers in the Sarnia-Lambton community.

Many VCASL member agencies invite a selection of their volunteers for special recognition at this event. It is important that our volunteers know that they are valued and appreciated.

Our featured speaker this year was Dr. Joan Ross.  Dr. Ross is a Sarnia general surgeon.  Dr. Ross, ably assisted by her daughter Ciara, spoke about her experiences as a volunteer surgeon on a hospital ship off the coast of Africa, and on the importance of the efforts of volunteers to the well-being and efficient operation of communities.  Dr. Ross’ slide presentation, chronicling the struggles and successes of the people who are helped by the hospital ship, was eye-opening and heart-warming.

A buffet of finger foods was provided, along with coffee, tea, water, and soft drinks. The view from high above the river through the floor-to-ceiling windows is always spectacular.

Each year, Steeves and Rozema donates the room and the food for the event. S&R goes above and beyond every year with their help and contributions to the effort. The VCASL is most appreciative of S&R’s support, along with that of every volunteer honouree.
