Volunteer Appreciation Event 2019
April 11, 2019 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm
The VCASL’s Volunteer Appreciation Event was held on Thursday, April 11th, 2019 at the St. Clair Corporate Centre’s Gateway Room, 265 Front Street North, Sarnia. This event is held every year during Volunteer Week to recognize the contributions of volunteers in the Sarnia-Lambton community.
Many VCASL member agencies invite a selection of their volunteers for special recognition at this event. It is important that our volunteers know that they are valued and appreciated.
Our featured speaker this year was Bonnie Kearns, 72, a retired nurse and obvious “Energizer Bunny”. Bonnie told stories and showed slides of the many disasters where she has volunteered under the auspices of the Canadian Red Cross, including the fall of the twin towers on 9-11, the Fort MacMurray wildfires, major southern US hurricanes, and the Goderich tornado. Bonnie clearly demonstrated the ideals of service to others through volunteering, and was an example and inspiration to the audience. Bonnie continues to volunteer through the Red Cross, as well as at Fairwinds Lodge in Sarnia.
A buffet of finger foods was provided, along with coffee, tea, water, and soft drinks. The view from high above the river through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the Gateway Room is always spectacular.
Each year, Steeves and Rozema donates the room and the food for the event. S&R’s Landmark Village prepared the delicious food. S&R goes above and beyond every year with their help and contributions to the effort. The VCASL is most appreciative of S&R’s support, along with that of every volunteer honouree.
