Title: Train Your Brain Site Volunteer Reporting to: Site Head Coach and Executive Director
Works With: Program participants (Grade 3–4 learners), parents/guardians, fellow volunteers

Role Description:

Help kids grow their confidence—and have fun doing it! Join Literacy Lambton’s Train Your Brain team and support Grade 3 & 4 learners as they build essential reading and math skills through interactive games and activities. As a Site Volunteer, you’ll work alongside our Site Learning Coach to create a positive, engaging space where learning feels like play. The program runs at three locations across Lambton County on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday evenings (site-dependent), from 6:00–7:30 PM for eight (8) weeks.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist with set-up, clean-up, and program flow
  • Play literacy and numeracy games with children
  • Encourage a welcoming, inclusive, and fun environment
  • Follow the direction of the Site Learning Coach and support smooth program delivery

 

Skills/Qualifications Needed:

  • Friendly, dependable, and enthusiastic about working with children
  • Comfortable supporting activities in a public or school setting
  • Adults 18+ must complete volunteer onboarding and a clear Vulnerable Sector Check
  • First Aid certification is an asset, but not required

 

Time Commitment:

  • Commit to one evening per week for the full 8-week session
  • May choose to volunteer at more than one site (different nights)
  • Night One: Orientation and team meet & greet from 5:00–6:00 PM, followed immediately by the first program session
  • Weeks 2–8: Volunteer time from 5:45–7:45 PM
  • Must provide own transportation

Training Required: Mandatory orientation starting at 5pm the first night of every eight-week program
Training Provided: Minimal

Additional Information: There are a total of nine (9) programs offered each school year. Fall, Winter, and Spring sessions with three sites offered each session. Volunteers are welcome to return for multiple sessions.
